Welcome to my blog!
I thought I would start by posting my very first canvas that was completed in summer 2007. It's entitled 'Fighting Wings: George Unwin Tribute'. The 'Fighting Wings' title will serve as the base title for all my future aviation paintings.
The painting itself is acrylic and was the first time I'd used that medium. It depicts Spitfire X4425 of Flt Sgt George 'Grumpy' Unwin about to take off from Fowlmere airfield in Cambridgeshire to intercept incoming enemy raiders during the summer of 1940.
In November 2007 I took a trip to South London to a place called 'Legends Aviation Gallery' and had it hand signed on the back by Luftwaffe veterans Hajo Hermann & Walter Schuck.
On an associated note, around 20 of my original drawings are now on display for purchase there, including four featuring the Bf 109G of 137 kill ace Walter Wolfrum, 1./JG52, which were personally signed by him. It was a pleasure to meet him and he told me the name 'Quex' on his ship stood for his girlfriend 'Quick Silver'. So if you ever have time please visit their website.
This is a photo of the original unframed 20''x 16'' canvas which now proudly hangs in the Carby family living room!
