Trippin' To Tokyo

This drawing features the Pacific based P-51 Mustang of ace pilot Major James B. Tapp, 78th FS, 18th FG, escorting long range B-29 bombers on their way to Tokyo. This was done back in April but in reality, this project came about mostly because I really wanted to draw Fuji-san after a similar project I'd completed some months prior back in November 2007.

D-Day Spitfires

Drawn back in June, this scene shows Spitfires of 126sqn as they takeoff from their Culmhead base on D-Day , June 6th, 1944. I added a Bedford truck in the picture to balance eveything out and it was good to portray a ground vehicle for a change.

The Dambusters

This drawing features a 'Dambuster' Lancaster bomber on it's way to the Ruhr Dams, May 16th 1943. It was my last airplane drawing on regular cartridge paper (125gsm) produced in May 2007, and was one of my first drawings since early 2004 - a long time to be out of the game, but I've still got it!

I only had one weeks warning to gather reference details, draw it and then drive up to AcesHigh gallery so it could be signed by the last 5 surviving Dambusters.

Duncan meets the Dambusters - May 2007

I had a lot fun drawing this picture and it was an honor to have it signed by the Dambusters. I also had the opportunity to chat with master sculptor, Peter Close at the event.

Typhoon over Mortain

This is my latest drawing and features a 245 Sqn Typhoon overflying the town of Mortain, France, August 1944. Mortain was the first time RAF Typhoons came up against an advancing Panzer division, savaged it, and brought it to a grinding halt in a critical military situation. Within a few days, the Normandy breakout would take place and the Typhoon units would be in the thick of it once more in the Falaise Gap. (Click for bigger image!)

Me262 JET ATTACK

This A4 sketch was my first try at an Me262 jet fighter - and a good first try I think it was too. The scene depicts the jet of Uffz. 'Jonny' Muller, JV44, who brought down two B-26 bombers in April 1945. (Click to view bigger image!)'White 15'

Fw190 'Red 19'

Up until about halfway into this drawing after maybe 2 days, I was really unhappy because it looked like a mess in my eyes. Only when the details were applied did it bring everything together. Then, once the background was filled in it really came into being.

The drawing itself is a portrait of Ernst Schroders Fw190 'Red 19', which having survived for four months, was apparently one of the longest serving Fw190s in the last year of the war!

It has taken me a year to reach this level of detail since I started working on silk-gloss, and this particular piece is now my favorite drawing so far, but until I can afford to frame it, it's going to have to stay in the drawer! (Click to view bigger image!)

Bf109 vs P-51Ds

One of four pictures created in a rush for a fighter pilot signing in November 2007, it depicts the Bf109G-14 of 23 kill ace Richard Franz being pursued by P-51s of the 357th FG over Arnhem, September 1944.

I was delighted to have caught up with Luftwaffe veterans Hajo Hermann & Walter Schuck who personally signed it.

Fw190D vs P-51D

This was amoung one of my first pictures after an almost 3 year hiatus in May 2007 and was my very first try on high quality silk-gloss paper which gives a wonderful 'sheen' effect.

The depiction is that Oberleutnant Hans Hartigs Fw190D, who having just downed a P-47 T-bolt to bring his total kill tally to 6, was in turn brought down by P-51s of the 361st FG 'Yellowjackets'.

The drawing was personally signed by KC holders Hajo Hermann, JG300, & Walter Schuch, JG5.
